Requiescat in Pace -- Joseph Harris

Lars Hanson

No longer our Joseph of Harris,

Will charm us with humor so clarus.

His wit so keen,

It never was mean –

He’d riposte but never embarrass.

Smilepoet brightened

All with humorous verses --

Joseph Harris – gone.

It is with a heavy heart that I report that a long-time member here, Joseph Harris, died this morning.

    Aloha,

        Lars

Though the cultural chasm was wide
Twixt the Brits and the Yanks on this side
Of that Pacific pond
Of him, we were fond
And we’re glad he came ‘long for the ride

What happened? Was he ill? And how did you come to know about it?

While it is neither punny nor contains limericks, this eulogy delivered by John Cleese for Terry Graham seems appropriate to post:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7x9uhrg4Hs

One Sagan,

Joseph died after nine months with spinal cancer.  He and I have exchanged e-mails for over two decades.  We also have been connected for about 12 years through a more serious list I run, plus a weekly Zoom discussion group on international events and affairs that I run.

Not everything is just PUNY.  ;-)

It has been a long haul.

    Aloha,

        Lars

When my wife, Ruth, and I were vacationing in the U.K. seven years ago, we met Joseph in London. We had a good time exchanging a few puns, so I’m glad I’ll have those memories of him.
