Welcome to the puny E-Mail Group
Lee Jackson <jacksonhome@...>
Punsters United Nearly Yearly (P.U.N.Y.) is a small, unofficial group, formed in 1990 to assist the O. Henry Home and Museum in Austin, TX. Specifically, we help coordinate and present the museum's largest fundraiser each year, the annual O. Henry Pun-Off World Championships.
The O. Henry Home and Museum is actually inside the house in which the famous short story author William Sydney Porter (a.k.a. O. Henry) lived while in Austin. The house is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The Pun-Off helps to provide operating and renovation funds for the museum. In the process, we provide free entertainment for over 1,000 spectators each year, collecting funds through raffles, book sales, and audience donations during the event. The Pun-Off is also an event that allows the most twisted minds in the country, P.U.N.Y. members and otherwise, a chance to show just how far the English language can be bent without breaking. Discussions shall include and mostly be limited to P.U.N.Y. status announcements, news on other pun-related events, pun challenges and discussions, and ideas about future fund raisers and competitions. Basically, anything pun-related or O. Henry-related is fair game. Group Manager: puny-owner@egroups.com To subscribe, send a message to puny-subscribe@egroups.com or go to the e-group's home page at http://www.egroups.com/list/puny

I heard they're serving hors d'oeuvres: Someone brought a can o' peas. Now all we need is a final decision on where this and future soirees are to be held . . . we've agreed on a change of venue, but evenue are confused as to where it's to be. Are we all gathering here? As usual, I got to the party at the time posted on the invitation and I'm early. The hostess told me to bring my favorite dip and so I brought my husband.

The Hallock Entity <c.hallock@...>
Considering all the far flung threads we've created this past week on PUNY
I think it's not a good idea to be posting messages that go only to the alternate lists. I'm responding here only to state that I AM indeed subcribed to this list and am LISTening to the chat. Until such time as PUNY makes an official move to one of the alternate lists, I don't plan to post anywhere other than on Prodigy. Not trying to be snobbish, just trying to keep my life simple. It looks like no one really cares.
One problem with this list, it is set so the reply button goes to the sender, not the list. We are so interactive that it should be set to go to the list if possible. Lee should look into that. Re: Egroups
Lee Jackson <jacksonhome@...>
This is one final test of the eGroups setup. I would appreciate it if
everyone who sees this message would hit the Reply button on their reader and make a note of the address that appears in the To: field of the new message. Also, forward that address to me in your reply, please. I think I've found the eGroups configuration switch that sets the list up so that replies go to the list's address by default, rather than to the person who posted the original message. If this is true, then I think I'm going to recommend that we go with eGroups rather than with ONEList. Please get back to me ASAP, so that I can make the final determination and post the outcome tomorrow. Lee,

The address showed up as puny@egroups.com this time. The only drawback to egroups is the ads which appear to accompany each message, but a single ad is tolerable. Multiple ads could get really old very quickly, though. Will egroups have these ads every time? Will they be limited to just one, or will the number increase? (Some of the subscription lists I am on are positively flooded with ads.) The Hallock Entity <c.hallock@...>
Well I guess I'm the odd-man-out. My reply button behaves the same as
befroe and wants to reply only to the individual. I'm also not getting anything on the subject line. I think it's a problem with my e-mail program. I tried to send a message to this effect earlier but when I addressed a cc to Onelist, it was kicked back because I apparently didn't subscribe correctly. The wierd thing is that it also kicked back the message that I attemped to send to Egroups and I know I'm subscribed there. That original message appears below.
