Re: Gary Hallock Update

Lars Hanson

The passing of Gary Hallock is truly a mournful event.  There was Gary the man, husband, father.  And then there was Gary the driving force behind the Pun-Off, PUNY, the O. Henry Museum and more.  Men like Gary will live on in the hearts and minds of those who knew him, and all those touched by his humor.

A lovely form of Nirvana, for Gary has been spread among all those who know him, however well or slightly.  He has touched us all, and his light will not die.

    Aloha,

        Lars

If anyone wants to make a donation to the O. Henry Home and Museum in Gary's name, go to this page:

Scroll down and look on the left side for the donation link. Follow the prompts until you get to the Paypal page (I don't know if this works on the credit card page). You can specify a dedication in a box on this page.

Despite knowing him only a short time, I feel as though Gary would not only appreciate a 21 pun salute, he wordplay right along with the rest of us.

I think celebrating his life with puns is totally appropriate, and certainly what Gary would do. I would submit that such humor was what he dedicated his laughtime to. Now there is a great disturbance in the farce.

May his memory be a blessing.

Might I offer, as our own memorial, a 21 pun salute?

It is with great sadness that I must tell you that our dear friend Gary Hallock passed away yesterday evening. He passed peacefully and painlessly at home with his wife, sons, and granddaughters at his bedside. He was in home hospice care for the last week or two, receiving palliative care. I was with him just four hours before he passed, and he was sleeping in no apparent pain. No plans have been announced for a memorial service, but a tribute will be planned at the next Pun-Off.
